A note from the authors

Don,

Just finally got to see all the illustrations together. Oh my! Illustrations good enough to die for! We LOVE them and think this will be an amazing book. Thanks, Don, for all your hard work. It really shows!
We love the color and the different perspectives are amazing. The animals' expressions are priceless--the slightly evil look on pig's face when he's about to pin the tail on duck, and on all their faces when they are so disappointed to see the cornbread, and on and on. We are hooting and hollering and slapping ourselves silly!

With many thanks,
Martha and Mitch

Children's book illustrators love this kind of feedback. The Hidden Feast is a children's book which will publish with August House Publishing in the spring of 2006

Nice stuff, man. I really like the colors used and the texture in the paint. What did you use on it?

And congrats on the great review!

Oh yeah, Don! I'm cheering for you. It's great that you were so able to capture the story in a way that pleased not only you, and your editors, but the writer too! Well done. I need to go put the book on my list.

That is a great letter. If only rejection letters could be like that!

love, love, LOVE the pig! It looks like you were having fun, Don, while doing it. I like that! If you're having fun, it's a sure bet other folks will, too!

Could you put up a t-shirt transfer of a version of piggy on your website that kids (including big ones like me) can put for free on their teeshirts? Folks can buy these teeshirt trnasfers in the fabric stores. You just print off a JPEG image on them, they print LOVELY colors.
It would be a freebie kind of thing that can draw attention to your website for teachers/kinds. I saw stuff like this on Jan Brett's webstite (illustrator). Teachers love her site. Would the publisher let you do it? You could put a copyright notice on it someplace on the image....yeah, I want piggy on a teeshirt....yeah!

Best to you! I sing very loud hymns my way from my hymnbook when I get furious...used to do that in the basemetn of thsi tiny aprtmetn in Seattle,my husband and I were cooped up inside... folks could hear me from two stories up and more...never got any complaints, though...hmmmm....

Forgot to mention that an image on the web made for a tee-shirt transfer is a JPEG that has the image reversed. The image has to print in reverse on the transfer paper, then you iron the paper on the teeshirt, and it comes out right.

You can take an image and print it in reverse using a special print function some printers, but that would vary from printer to printer. It would be like an advertisement for the book that people can print off and wear. Resized, they can be printed on bags and mousepads that kidn of thing, check the fabric stores.

You can give one special image away for free and then charge folks for printing off other special ones for the book...if the website is set up for takign orders, if you can arrange that with your publisher...you can do special images not on the book but connected with it. The publisher could do it on their website!
netfirms.com is a good place to go for setting up small business type stuff like that on websites for very inexpensive.

Just sharing ideas I'm fiddling with here for my own things....!
