Encouraging feedback

I came in to work (remember, my full-time gig is at the paper) yesterday to discover this letter to the editor, clipped from the paper, on my desk. It came as a response to the "Eyes of a child" piece that ran in this past Sunday's newspaper. Needless to say, these comments blew me away. You wouldn't believe the negativity surrounding a brotha's writing endeavors as related to this blog, and the YA memoir I've been writing. Sheez, you'd think I took up naked bungee jumping or co-ed mud wrestling. Damn, on second thought, those sound freakishly fun!

It's this type of positive feedback — not only from letters like this, but from comments posted here — that give me confidence in further pursuing my writing endeavors. I thank you all for your support, and I thank God for infesting me with this writing bug.

Unrelated thought for the day: Honest to gosh, I have nothing against a naked lady brandishing a microphone but, come on guys, aren't you glad the E network cancelled the Howard Stern show? Degrading.

An observation: I know a guy who snores fairly loud...while awake.

A plea: Forgive me guys for not visiting your blogs in awhile, I'm under an ugly deadline trying to finish the illustrations for this next book.

Brother glad you are getting the recognition you deserve. Good fathers are hard to find this day and age. My dad was never there and the step fathers I had where pretty well worthless. I believe I have children this is what will drive me to be the best father ever. It is great that you are getting positive feed back on here and from the paper. Keep up the good work. People are watching you, so keep up the good work.

There may be a new Stern TV show next year, but on a premium channel. Seems listeners want to see what he sees.

Damned If I Know

Wonderful! It's praise like that, that really helps the writer. Congratulations Don.

You truly have a God given talent.

Blessings!

Oh, and don't worry about the blog visits...you visit us when you can. Your deadlines are far more important. Our blogs aren't going anywhere. So, have no worries!

No need to apologize, Devas ... Once a fan, always a fan! You got a lot goin' on , brah, and this blogging thing is just extra. The other comment was on point, you have been infected with purpose, through prose! Write on, my brutha! Just give us heads up when the pre-book sales start (and I've said this before).

Don, from one artist to the other, I couldn't be happier for you man. There's struggle in almost every aspect of our lives, and the ride through the road to success can be arduous, but when it pays off brotha, it is very satisfying. Congratulations to you. It was well deserving if not long overdue! Now do your thing.

By the way, that Graphic Novel book you suggested I check out, man I'm purchasing that jammee. It's got great reviews and may just be the thing to put a brotha over that hump. Even if it don't happen, the ride itself will be worth it. Good lookin' out man!

Eyes tearing up, sniff, sniff -- where's the kleenex? Son, I'm so happy for you. I'm greatful to God that he chose you to be my son (even if you are a little freaky deaky)-- Oh, did I say that?

When you were little, I used to say "I'm proud all over the place." I don't know if you remember that or not -- but I'll say it again -- "I'm still proud all over the place." Love ya

I was going to say, thanks to all of you out there for encouraging my Devas; but I don't want to embarrass him. (Thanks anyway) -- opps, I meant to erase this part. Smiling from ear to ear.

Doggone that mom, I should never have taught her how to blog; I knew she would embarrass me -- anywho ol boy -- I still need help learning how to link you know those "road blocks" I told you that I keep running into. I'll call you on that one. Please don't kick me off the blog, I'll behave myself.

Just letting you know that I answered your question back on my blog. I am trying to get in the habit (hahaha) of keeping my conversations within whatever blog they started in. LOL
